Dedicated to the memory of Ronald Jones
Ron Jones, aged 79, passed away at home on 26 January 2025.
Born in 1945, he overcame a challenging childhood to forge a remarkable life. He began his culinary career at 15 at London’s Dorchester Hotel, earning awards before running his own restaurant.
In the 1980s, he moved to South Africa, managing hotels and restaurants before opening a pet shop in Zululand. He later ran a popular bird park near Johannesburg, appearing on TV with the animals he cared for. A lifelong tropical fish enthusiast, he took great pride in his collection of plecostomus. Returning to the UK, he embraced gardening and family life with his wife, Sue, and sons, Andrew and Matt, cherishing time with his grandchildren, Edwin, Page, and Lila, and his great-granddaughter, Florence.
His ashes will be laid to rest in Much Marcle and Zululand, the two places he held dearest.
More than anything, he will be missed for his stories.
